近世における琵琶湖舟運の展開に関する研究

Abstract

本研究は、18世紀中期以降の琵琶湖舟運の展開について検討するものである。その最 大の成果は、舟運の衰退時期とその理由の解明である。通説と異なり、舟運衰退の開始は18世紀半ばである。ま た、衰退理由の一つは、全国的な不況を受け、北国筋の荷主が諸失費を避けるために上荷や下荷を大坂に直漕 し、その結果、近国の米穀が地売りに出されたことで、琵琶湖舟運の荷物が減少したことである。二つ目は、全 国的な諸物価の高騰により、船用材木や鉄類が入手困難となり、船の造替が不可能となったことで、船数の減少 や船規模の縮小を招いたことである。琵琶湖舟運の衰退が、当該期の全国的な景気動向に左右されていることが 明らかとなった。 I grappled with study of development of the Lake Biwa water transportation after the mid-18th century. The first result is to have clarified the time when the decline of the water transportation began.In addition,I clarified its reason.Unlike a common view, the decline of the water transportation was the mid-18th century.This time was recession nationwide, and, as for the first of the reason, direct shipping did cargo to Osaka for evasion of cost a shipper. As for the second, the acquisition of the ship material became difficult by the remarkable rise of the price and, as a result, was that the number of the ships decreased, and the scale of the ship reduced. The second result is to have been able to clarify the difference in recognition about water transportation between some interested parties.
